My dog (1 year old english bulldog) sometimes doesn't eat his meals. Stool is good, energy is still normal, no vomiting, or any other signs of sickness. I went the Pepcid AC route recommended by vet, which seemed to work for a few days, but last two days, he hasn't had his first meal. Do I need to change the food? Could it be that he can't smell his food? I believe he has allergies b/c his eyes water from time to time.

We have three Yorkshire Terriers, two male and one female. Most of the time, they get along fine, playing together, sleeping in the same bed, etc. However, once every day or two the larger-but-younger (1-year-old) male will attack the smaller (2-year-old) male. There haven't been any serious injuries, but we have found some small tooth marks on the smaller dog's ear.

The larger male is generally a very obedient and sweet-tempered animal. The larger dog has not been neutered; the smaller one is neutered. Both dogs get along fine with the female. We haven't noticed the smaller dog doing anything to provoke the attacks.

The smaller dog has started to avoid the larger dog, and will often cower in the corner. I'm not really worried about a serious injury happening, but I do want the smaller dog to feel safer and happier.

Anyone have any tips for helping the dogs to get along better?

My 1 1/2 year old english bulldog lately has been having snorting fits. It can be pretty intense for him and last 10 sec or so. Probably happens 5-8 times per day. I've also noticed that he has been having a running nose, so I wonder if he has a cold and maybe the fits come with the cold.

Thanks.

Growing up in rural areas it was pretty common for a cat to go "missing" and never return. The typical assumption is that the coyotes got to the cat, although I never witnessed it first hand. I guess I have two questions. Is it a common incident and how can you prevent it with outdoor cats?

My dog almost ate an entire dead squirrel. We were doing our normal morning pee walk and there just so happened to be a deceased squirrel laying upside down in the grass. As soon as my dog spotted it he darted over and put half of it in his mouth. I of course freaked out and screamed as loud as I could at him to let it go. It was pretty scary because whenever he knows he's not supposed to eat something he has in his mouth he tries to quickly swallow it as you're walking towards him. Luckily it was way too big.

I have two dogs, one large chocolate lab and the other a small pug/beagle mix. They are both on a raw food diet and eat the same chicken and mixed vegetables (different portions, obviously). What would cause the large dog's poop to be mostly dry when it comes out while the other one is moist? And is it a bad thing for a dog to have dry poop? Overall, the lab dog also goes less frequently in comparison.

http://petnibs.com/questions/188/what-are-some-remedies-for-a-skunked-dogWhat are some remedies for a skunked dog?Mr. Sticky2010-06-02T18:17:34Z2010-06-02T18:17:34Z

I live in a neighborhood that is also home for skunks the warmer part of the year. What's the best formula to get skunk smell off in the event that one of my dogs gets hit? I've heard once a dog is skunked he/she will not longer want to try to play with them, but I don't want to purposely expose my dog just to get it out of the way :)

Story Time:

My neighbor's dog got loose and followed me around late one night when I took my dogs out. On the way back she ran over to a bush because she had spotted something. I thought it was a cat so I brought my dogs over for a look. As soon as I saw it escape from under the bush, running towards me with its sleek racing stripe, time began to slow down. It was like a scene in the movie where the action hero discovers a bomb, determines it's about to go off, and in slow motion turns and begins to run. I was dragging my dogs as hard and fast as I could in the opposite direction. I don't even remember if they were on their feet or not.

The moment that thing went off I will never forget. We're talking a highly-concentrated gas cloud instantly affecting a 100 foot area. Neighbor's dog rushing across the street to rub her face on wet grass in a futile attempt to get the stink off. Me getting out of range and back to my house as quickly as I can.

Now my biggest fear (and why I stopped jogging at night) is the thought of coming around a blind corner right into a skunk, bent over, butt up in the air directed right at me ready to fire. I may just be paranoid, but the skunk-related nightmares I also have on occasion are not helping.

http://petnibs.com/questions/185/how-do-i-invite-wild-ducks-to-live-on-my-propertyHow do I invite wild ducks to live on my property?Mochi2010-06-02T05:21:05Z2010-06-02T05:21:05Z

I work in an office with a large courtyard between the buildings. There are nice green trees, plants, bushes, and several small ponds with fountains. Every year or two a couple of ducks will appear for an extended time and produce little ducklings. It's the absolute cutest thing ever:

One day I hope to live on a large plot of land somewhere in Oregon. I'd love it if some ducks came to live on my property and create some baby ducks! Is there anything I could do to make the environment inviting? Hopefully it doesn't mean kidnapping (ducknapping?) and placing them on my land with tiny strings tied around their little feet to prevent escape.

http://petnibs.com/questions/184/why-do-squirrels-make-weird-noises-at-my-dogsWhy do squirrels make weird noises at my dogs?Mochi2010-06-02T05:07:57Z2010-06-02T05:07:57Z

My dog has a thing for SQUIRREL! ... he's never been able to catch one, at least not one that hasn't already left this world by a collision with a vehicle. Sometimes when he chases on up a tree the squirrel will appear to be taunting him making strange noises while staring directly at us. Why? Why do they do this?!

Also, there is a squirrel that has built a nest in the tree next to our balcony. My dog can sit all day watching the squirrel run to one tree to strip off branches then back to the other with his newfound nesting materials.

http://petnibs.com/questions/182/how-many-hours-a-day-do-dogs-sleepHow many hours a day do dogs sleep?Rick Fleischer2010-06-01T21:59:35Z2010-06-01T21:59:35Z

My dogs get up when I get up in the morning for a few hours. When I go to work all they seem to do is sleep until I come by for lunch and take them out for a break. Same for when I go back to work and come home in the evening.

If I think about it, during the week I'm probably home and awake for 8 or 9 hours. So they're probably getting 15-16 hours of sleep. Not particularly a lifestyle I prefer, though my girlfriend would probably love it :P

It reminds me of the Mythbusters - Cabin Fever episode where Adam and Jamie get to the point where they pretty much just sleep a whole bunch.

Also, is the a particular best practice when applying it?

Lately, I've found that the ones that come without stuffing to last several weeks to a couple months. Just as long as I don't play tug-o-war with my lab. When it gets too stinky I'll simply toss it in the washer with the other dog bedding.

What other toys have lasted your dog the longest?

http://petnibs.com/questions/176/how-do-i-stop-my-house-from-smelling-like-a-dogHow do I stop my house from smelling like a dog?Ender2010-05-06T13:17:57Z2010-05-06T13:18:33Z

I try to wash my dogs every 3 weeks and shampoo my carpets every 6. Anything beyond that and the dog and carpet smell is unbearable. It usually starts with his chin/snout smelling first because he's a bit of a drooler. And honestly, I don't understand why the carpet gets so dirty from these dogs. It seems to have gotten worse recently and I'm afraid my house smells to visitors who's noses aren't used to it.

The three things that I can think of to contribute are all moisture related.

Visits to the dog park where he likes to lay in the ucky water near the water bowls. I end up rinsing him down before we head home.

When drinking water (he's a sloppy drinker) or drooling in general for his daily food.

Eating his daily chewy which leaves his snout a bit gross.

After any of these you can find him laying on the carpet, most likely making it wet in spots and later becoming smelly.

It didn't used to be this bad. Am I not washing him often enough?
